Description
The Red African Milk Tree is a striking, sculptural succulent that commands attention with its architectural form and dramatic, reddish-purple coloration. A selected cultivar of the classic Euphorbia trigona, ‘Rubra’ features thick, upright, three-angled stems that are beautifully flushed with burgundy, crimson, and deep purple, especially when grown in bright light . The stems are lined with small, oval leaves and a row of sharp, yet manageable, spines. Over time, this vigorous grower develops multiple branches, forming a dense, shrub-like, columnar specimen that adds bold, exotic structure to sunny interiors and drought-tolerant landscapes. Like all euphorbias, it exudes a milky sap that is a skin and eye irritant and toxic if ingested .
