Description

The Cinnamon Tree is a fascinating tropical specimen grown for its aromatic bark and leaves, which are the source of true cinnamon spice. In the Bay Area, it is strictly a container or greenhouse plant for all but the very warmest, most frost-free microclimates. It requires high humidity, consistent warmth, and protection from any frost.

• The source of true cinnamon spice, derived from the inner bark of its branches. The leaves are also aromatic when crushed.

• A tender tropical tree that will be damaged or killed by temperatures below 40°F (4°C). Must be grown in a container and overwintered indoors in most of the Bay Area.

• Prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil, high humidity, and bright, indirect light when grown indoors.

• A slow-growing and exotic plant for dedicated gardeners or as a seasonal patio accent moved outdoors in summer.
