Description

The Tulip Tree is a magnificent, fast-growing native giant that offers unique flowers and spectacular fall color. It is one of the tallest and straightest hardwood trees in North America, valued for its rapid growth, distinctive tulip-shaped leaves and blooms, and its role as an excellent shade tree for large properties. However, its ultimate size makes it suitable only for the most spacious landscapes.

• Grows exceptionally tall and straight with a strong, central trunk, forming a distinctive, narrow pyramidal crown when young that broadens with age.

• Produces unique, tulip-shaped flowers in late spring that are yellow-green with an orange band at the base. While attractive up close, they are often held high in the canopy and may be overlooked.

• Features distinctive, bright green leaves that are also tulip-shaped (or saddle-shaped), turning a clear, brilliant yellow in the fall.

• Grows very rapidly when young, providing quick height and shade. It is a valuable timber tree and an important nectar source for bees and hummingbirds.

• Due to its massive mature size (up to 90 ft tall), it requires an extremely large, open spaceaway from buildings, power lines, and other structures.
