Description
Lessingia filaginifolia ‘Silver Carpet’ (syn. Corethrogyne filaginifolia) is a superb, fast-spreading evergreen ground cover prized for its dense, silvery-gray foliage and profuse, late-season, lavender-purple flowers. This California native selection forms a low, wide, weed-suppressing mat of small, narrow, fuzzy, silvery-blue to gray-green leaves. From late summer through fall, it is covered with a profusion of small, aster-like, lavender-purple flowers with yellow centers, creating a soft, hazy display that attracts a parade of small butterflies (including skippers and duskywings) and other pollinators. Exceptionally drought, heat, salt, and wind tolerant, and adapting to a range of soils (including clay), it is an outstanding choice for large-scale ground cover, slopes, erosion control, coastal gardens, rock gardens, and as a cascading plant over low walls and steps.
