Description

Oregon Grape is the classic, state flower of Oregon, valued for its multi-season interest and edible berries. It forms a dense, rounded mound of holly-like, pinnate leaves that emerge bronze-red in spring, mature to deep green, and often turn attractive shades of burgundy-purple in winter. In early spring, it produces clusters of cheerful yellow flowers, followed by edible, blue-purple berries that can be used to make tart jelly. It’s a tough, adaptable native perfect for naturalizing in dry shade.
