Description
Carolina Cherry Laurel is a tough, native (to Southeastern U.S.) evergreen large shrub or small tree, highly valued for its heat, drought, and salt tolerance. It has a more upright, tree-like form with pointed leaves and is excellent for a tall, low-water screen in sunny, exposed, or coastal locations.
-
More heat and drought tolerant than English Laurel once established, making it a better choice for hot, sunny inland spots and water-wise gardens.
-
Can be trained as a large, dense shrub or a small multi-trunked tree with a more upright growth habit.
-
Tolerates coastal salt spray and poor soils very well.
-
Note: Its roots can be aggressive. Plant it well away from foundations and plumbing. All parts are toxic.
