Description
Australian Tea Tree is a fast-growing, extremely tough evergreen shrub or small tree, highly valued for its ability to thrive in the most challenging coastal and inland conditions. It develops a broad, spreading crown with gnarled, twisting branches and soft, weeping foliage of small, grey-green leaves. In spring, it is covered with a profusion of small, white flowers. Its exceptional tolerance for wind, salt spray, drought, and poor, sandy soils makes it an indispensable choice for stabilizing dunes, creating windbreaks, or as a low-maintenance specimen in difficult sites.
-
Extreme Environmental Tolerance: Exceptionally hardy, tolerating severe coastal exposure, salt spray, drought, wind, and poor, sandy or rocky soils.
-
Fast-Growing & Spreading: Grows rapidly into a large, broad-crowned shrub or small tree, reaching 10-30 feet tall and wide.
-
Erosion Control & Windbreak: Its extensive root system and dense growth make it superb for stabilizing slopes, dunes, and for use as a windbreak.
-
Low Maintenance & Drought Tolerant: Requires virtually no care or supplemental water once established.
-
Important Consideration: Can be aggressive and self-seed in ideal conditions. In some areas (like coastal California), it is considered invasive and may outcompete native vegetation. Check local regulations before planting.
